UKHAHLAMBA-DRAKENSBERG |
The uKhahlamba-Drakensberg Park is South Africa’s first mixed (Cultural & Natural) heritage site, claiming international recognition for both the unique rock art sites and the Drakensberg’s natural magnificence. The mythical magic of the Dragon Mountains (Drakensberg) embraces every visitor with its unique blend of spectacular scenery, rich history and heart-warming hospitality.
The magnificent outline of cliffs and peaks of this 1600 kilometre range inspired the Zulus to describe the escarpment as “The Barrier of Spears”. To Voortrekker Pioneers it became known as the “Dragon Mountains” since myths of fire breathing monsters high up in these impenetrable crags created a mystique that has become so much a part of the Drakensberg legend.
Standing on top of the uKhahlamba-Drakensberg Park Mountains, you feel as if you are on top of the world. uKhahlamba-Drakensberg Park is a place of world significance. This World Heritage Site is one of South Africa’s premier eco-tourism destinations.
